02/17/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - A pair of teams will battle for the second time in three days tonight at Pengrowth Saddledome, where the Calgary Flames again play host to the Colorado Avalanche.
The two teams just met on Thursday, when Milan Hejduk's hat trick propelled the Avalanche to a come-from-behind 7-5 victory over the Flames.
The teams have met three times so far this year, with a game schedule in Denver in December postponed until April 8. The Flames had posted wins in the first two contests until Thursday's setback. That loss snapped both a five- game overall winning streak and a five-game home winning burst in the series for Calgary.
Joe Sakic scored twice, including his 600th career goal, and also added three assists for the Avalanche, winners of two straight and three of five. Andrew Brunette notched a goal and two assists in the win, while Brett Clark added a goal and one assist.
Sakic made history as the 17th player to reach the 600-goal plateau with an empty-net clincher 10 seconds before the final buzzer.
The Avalanche, though, again struggled in net to start the game.
Jose Theodore picked up the win on Thursday, stopping eight-of-nine shots in relief of starter Peter Budaj. Budaj was pulled after giving up four goals on 20 shots in just over 35 minutes of action.
Colorado, which moved to 12-12-1 on the road, has now made a mid-game goaltending switch in three of its last four contests.
The Avalanche still remain last in the Northwest Division and are seven points out of a playoff spot. The club will wrap up a three-game road trip Sunday in Vancouver.
Jarome Iginla posted two goals for the Flames, who have dropped five of their last six. Former Av Alex Tanguay picked up three assists, Craig Conroy had a goal and two helpers, and Matt Lombardi tallied twice in defeat.
Roman Hamrlik chipped in a pair of assists for Calgary, which received a subpar performance in goal from Miikka Kiprusoff. The All-Star netminder stopped just 29-of-35 chances.
The Flames enter this matchup in second place in the Northwest Division, two points behind Vancouver.
Thursday's loss dropped the Flames to 1-1 on their current three-game homestand and 23-6-1 at home on the season.
These teams will face one another again on Tuesday, this time at the Pepsi Center.
